Hearing The Voice Of God Through Dreams Part 1

Dreams are one of the main ways God speaks to us. A dictionary definition of dreams says dreams are a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep. We all have dreams; some very often and some occasionally. There are cases where some do not dream at all. Do you know God can reveal many things to you through dreams? Dreams can catapult you into destiny and God can use them to warn and direct you. The very first time the word ‘dream’ was mentioned in the Bible was in Genesis 20:3-7.

But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, “Indeed you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.” But Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, “Lord, will You slay a righteous nation also?  Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she, even she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this.” And God said to him in a dream, “Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore, I did not let you touch her. Now therefore, restore the man’s wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.”

By means of a dream, God came to warn Abimelech about taking Sarah, Abraham’s wife, from him. Also, God told him of how He, God, withheld him from sinning. God then directed Abimelech to ask Abraham to pray for him so he does not die because of his actions. Dreams are so glorious. God can appear to you in a dream to direct you, warn you and speak to you about mandates as well as actions that can take you to the next level.

There are men in the Bible who had profound dreams; some examples are Jacob, Abraham, Solomon and Joseph. We can say they were dreamers (Genesis 37:20, Deuteronomy 13:2). There are types of dreamers: those who dream frequently and those who have occasional yet profound dreams. Desire to dream as a believer!

Every dream has significance and has a source. There are different sources of dreams.

  1. There are dreams that come from God. In 1 Kings 3:5, At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?”  This kind of dream is from God.
  2. There are dreams that come from a multitude of work. Ecclesiastes 5:3-7 says: “For a dream comes through much activity, and a fool’s voice is known by his many words.”
  3. There are dreams that come from the devil or filthy dreams. Jude 1:8 says: “Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.”

Always ask God to give you dreams and soak your dreams in the infallible blood of Jesus.

Additionally, there are many types of dreams: angelic dreams, warning dreams, prophetic dreams and directional dreams. Most people dream but you can pray and ask God to give you dreams that will transform your destiny. I barely had dreams growing up and I used to forget my dreams a lot. There are a few notable dreams I had growing up that till date I have never forgotten. They were very profound. When I became born again, I began to have very frequent dreams and till date, I have very profound dreams. I can remember very strange details in dreams.

One good habit you need to have when you dream a lot is to record the dreams. Write the dreams on your phone’s notes app or write them in a book. Include the date and time you had the dream and any other details you can remember. Later, I will speak into details on why you need to record your dreams.

Dreams can be very plain (very self-explanatory) or coded. Coded dreams carry symbols such as colors, figures, etc. Abimelech’s dream was very plain and did not need any interpretation but Pharaoh’s dream in Genesis 41:1-4 was coded. “Then it came to pass, at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh had a dream; and behold, he stood by the river. Suddenly there came up out of the river seven cows, fine looking and fat; and they fed in the meadow. Then behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ugly and gaunt, and stood by the other cows on the bank of the river. And the ugly and gaunt cows ate up the seven fine looking and fat cows. So Pharaoh awoke.”  This dream required interpretation because it had numbers, animals and actions that required a man with a gift of interpretation to interpret it.

I will share two dreams (one coded and the other plain) I had that meant one thing and how it affected my ministry. In 2019, I dreamt that I was taken to my high school, Most Holy Heart School, located in Dansoman, Accra. I was walking on the compound and saw that students had gathered at a section of the compound watching the gospel musician, Sonnie Badu, perform there. When I woke up, I didn’t understand the dream. This dream would probably be plain to people with the gift of interpretation but for me, I was wondering whether Sonnie Badu was, in the future, going to perform in my school or he was going to begin going to schools to perform in Ghana.

After a few days, the dream was not leaving my spirit and I knew I had to get the interpretation. I prayed for God to give me understanding of the dream. Then I had another dream a few days later where I saw myself in my high school again and this time, I was telling a colleague from work that God says I should organize a worship and praise event at my junior high school before the year comes to an end. When I woke up from this dream, it was plain and I now understood what the first dream meant. I obeyed the dream and did exactly as I was told in the dream. I organized my first ever evangelistic mission (Worship and Praise event) in 2019 at Most Holy Heart School in Dansoman. This dream opened a major highway in my ministry. See below photos from the worship and praise event. This mandate came fully from a dream.

It is time you take your dreams seriously because God is speaking some profound things to you through them. Till date, God has used many dreams to speak to me about my life, business, ministry and people. I pray God speaks to you regularly in your dreams. Share in the comment session how God used your dreams to transform your life.

  1. I really agree that dreams can change our lives and also confirm some details to us. I remember I have remained in the Refuge of Grace because , I prayed to God to reveal to me if I have to worship there and I got the confirmation not through a prophecy but dream. God bless you my father my prophet for this blog.
