Hearing the voice of God Part 2 – Dreams that bring Direction

Like a father enjoys speaking with his sons and daughters, God enjoys speaking with His children. Dreams are one of the main mediums through which God’s children hear His voice. If you did not read part one of this post, kindly click this link to read it. In this article, I want to speak about dreams that bring direction and warning.

When you read the Bible, you discover instances where many lives were preserved and people received insight about steps to take through dreams. An example of this can be found in Matthew 2:13.

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.” By this divine direction, the life of baby Jesus was preserved. The dream gave Joseph insight into the plans of the enemy and the steps to take to preserve Jesus.

God gives us clear directions through dreams but the problem is that we either ignore or disregard them because we do not understand them. It is important to pray for understanding of dreams. I will share how a dream gave me clear direction and saved me from potential trouble in my business.

In the year 2020, I bid for a contract to develop a mobile application for a certain international organisation. The bidding and selection process was not easy but by God’s favour, I won it. A month after I signed the contract, I had a very profound dream. In the dream, one of the senior employees of the organisation who was staying abroad had come to Ghana from his base in Europe. However, he was not so happy with the project and how it turned out. It looked like the project had concluded and he was showing me, on a white board, why the project failed. He asked me questions about our process, details and steps. Then I began to think, in the dream, that this project would have been a success if I had hired a professional project manager. I was wondering why I did not hire one, then I woke up.

Amazed at what I had seen in the dream, I thanked Jesus and knew clearly that the dream was directing me to hire a professional project manager for this specific project. The truth is that I was doing most of the project management and I could have handled this project myself but the dream suggested that I needed someone more professional and diligent to assist me. I immediately obeyed and hired a professional project manager.

Apparently, the project owner had some complicated people on his team and the only way I could get some respite was to have a successful project manager execute the project. I also got super-busy eventually and could not pay due attention to the project. Thanks to the professional project manager I hired, we were able to execute the project to the client’s satisfaction. Thanks to the success of this project, the client gave us a follow-on contract. Praise God, Hallelujah! The dream really gave me clear instruction on how the project could succeed.

God can really direct you through dreams so do not neglect them. Document your dreams on paper or on the notes app of your phone. You might think the dream was so vivid that you can remember its details but as time goes on, those details or even the dream itself might fade into oblivion. Details play a key role in dreams. In the dream I narrated above, there were some details that played out during the project.

For example, in the dream, the client asked questions about process, steps and details. This shows that the main thing he was looking out for was not just the development of the application but also the professional approach and diligence in executing it. There was a particular woman on the project who was so detail-oriented that if you missed a dot, she would make a big issue of it during meetings. Thank God we got the direction in our dreams to get a professional to assist us.

Essentially, paying attention to your dreams can change your walk with God. God can use dreams to give you direction on many things. I once woke up from a dream in which an employee told me he was resigning from my company. I was very shocked yet I began to make preparations to get a new person to occupy his role. In less than a month after I had the dream, he left the company. God revealed this dream in order for me to prepare so there would be no vacuum left in my company.

It is worth considering that God has been giving you clear directions but your issue is that you are not paying enough attention. In view of this, there are quite a number of ways you can benefit from the glorious place of dreams:

  1. Pray and ask God to speak to you in your dreams before you sleep. In Psalms 19:2, the Bible says: “Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge.” There is a lot of knowledge embedded in dreams from God.
  1. Write your dreams down! Do not think the dream is unimportant because you do not understand it. Write every single thing you remember. When you read the Bible, you notice how the prophets described into detail things they saw. If you saw a blue bag, write a blue bag. If you saw 3 pens; one red, one blue and the other black, write the details down.

In one of my future articles, I will delve deep into interpretation. Be encouraged to write your dreams and even the date you had or recorded them. For iPhone users, when you write a note, it keeps a stamp of the date it was written provided you do not edit it.

I will embed a dream I wrote on 15th December 2018. This dream spoke about a virus which was going to pervade the world within the months of April and May. We later discovered that this was COVID-19. Covid was first found in December 2019 and by April-May 2020, it was all over the world. God was telling me to prepare as far back as December 2018.

Finally, I will leave you with this Scripture, Habakkuk 2:2-3.

“Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.  For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

  1. The details and accuracy of each dream! God is truly amazing. I tap into this testimony and pray for accuracy and remembrance as well. Looking forward to the one on interpretation.

  2. I pray for divine grace to understand and apply correctly what God says to me in dreams. Amen!
Thanks for this article. Really blessed!
