The Holy Spirit plays an integral role in our walk with God, and our yielding to His leadings confers upon us the title of sons of God, as stated in Romans 8:14: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” We need to yield to His leading. The coming of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 opened a portal for us to hear clearly what the Lord God is telling us at every hour, and the scripture goes into detail, telling us in Acts 2:17 the different ways in which we will hear from the Lord: “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.”
Our daily struggle as believers is that we do not hear God when He speaks, leading us into all kinds of errors and temptations. Some do not understand when God speaks, while others only listen to themselves and fall into pits and traps. Our daily lives are full of decisions, and this is where we need to allow the Holy Spirit to consistently influence our walk with Him. I want to share how a few years ago, I deviated from my work, and the Holy Spirit brought me back to His original intention and plan for me.
I always had a love for computers from a very young age. I remember when I was under ten, a church member who was a computer scientist used to bring a laptop to church, and after church, he would sit behind it and program. I would sit afar and admire him behind the laptop. A few years later, my father bought us a computer, and I fell in love with it. As the youngest, I wasn’t allowed to use it often, but I would peep anytime my brothers played games or watched movies on it. I then started going to internet cafes and fell in love with the internet. I continued and became very knowledgeable in both hardware and software, but my ultimate aim was software. I studied web development at a computer school after secondary school and studied information technology at the university. In my early twenties, I became widely known as a software developer for building Africa’s famous web browser called Anansi Web Browser and many other projects. I launched many web projects and currently run a software company. This is a short TV interview I did when I began my career in IT and other interviews about my journey here ( Forbes and KSM Show ).
Fast forward many years later, in the heat of COVID 19, I did a project for a foreign client. They liked my dedication and needed someone to spearhead a borehole project in Ghana for them. Because of my diligence and love for entrepreneurship and new ventures, I took up the project for them. Our first project was to build ten boreholes across Ghana. The project went so well that they secured additional funding, and we built many more boreholes for communities needing clean drinking water. It continued for over a year and a half, and I led the project as the lead project manager. By the time I realised, the project had seen me travel across over eight regions in Ghana and Togo. In total, we built over twenty boreholes in Ghana and Togo. I spent a lot of time on the road, ensuring everything was done to the satisfaction of our funders. Although the project started in the heat of COVID, it did not stop our drive. I enjoyed spearheading the project and gave little attention to my software company.
One day, I went to Togo to launch one of our boreholes and returned to Ghana. On our way going very early in the morning a small stone hit the windscreen of our car from nowhere and it began to crack gradually. It was not so visible so we continued our journey to Togo. I believe God was trying to send me a message about how I have deviated but I did not make any sense out of this occurrence. God speaks to us in various forms and through occurrences. I will speak more about symbols and occurrences in another blog post. On my return to Ghana I was so tired! We had traveled by road, and I was exhausted. I lay on the living room couch, and a deep sleep fell upon me. Deep sleep is one of the highways for having dreams that can change the course of your life. Do not play with dreams you have when you are deeply asleep; they often feel so real. In Genesis 15, Abraham had a deep dream that told him about the captivity of his descendants and their freedom: “Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him. Then He said to Abram: ‘Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions.'” This dream told him of things to come.
Back to my dream: I had a dream where a very popular man of God walked up to me and said, “Are you a software developer?” I said, “Yes,” and he mentioned a project I had abandoned for years. I said, “Yes, that is my project from a few years ago that I didn’t complete.” He said, “Go back to software development and that project.” I said, “Yes, please.” Then I woke up! I was very shocked at how accurate the dream was, and immediately, I knew I had to focus on software and put the building of boreholes aside. I did not think twice about it. The glory of hearing God is obeying Him when He speaks. Deuteronomy 30:8-10 says, “So now, return and obey the Lord your God and observe all His commands that I’m giving you today, and the Lord your God will prosper you abundantly in all that you do, along with your children, your livestock, and the produce of your fields, because the Lord your God will again be delighted with you for good, just as He was delighted with your ancestors.”
A few months after this dream, I returned to the project the Lord spoke about, and it has brought me significant financial gains, and I have seen many more people use my technology. My software company is back in action. The people who used to bring me the borehole projects encountered a few issues, and we terminated our partnership. Imagine if I had banked all my hope in the borehole business. God saved me by His timely divine leading. Now I am back to software development and working on exciting new projects in data analytics and artificial intelligence. It is important to place a premium on responding with actions when God gives you direction.
