God of Ideas (Part 2): Why Divine Ideas Matter

I began this series by talking about how God thinks and how He is very creative in Part 1 of “God of Ideas”. I spoke about how men like Moses and Noah received detailed instructions and ideas from God in building the ark, the ark of the covenant, and in making the priestly garment. I ended by telling you how the famous search engine Google was revealed to Larry Page, the co-founder, through a dream.

In this part, I want to talk about why divine ideas are needed in today’s world. The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the Lord, “thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” God gives us divine ideas so that we can build the great future He has prepared for us to live in. Many inventors, through divine inspiration, came up with remarkable innovations such as the light bulb, the automobile, and the airplane, ideas that have made life easier for humanity, for example,  in the area of transportation and beyond. God desires that His children, the believers, stand at the forefront of innovation, ensuring that future generations do not endure the same challenges of the past.

God also gives us divine ideas so that we can be problem solvers in our generation. He is a big God, and He gives ordinary men the ability to solve big problems in our world.

When Joseph, in Genesis 41, interpreted Pharaoh’s dream, God gave him a divine idea on how to sustain the nation during the seven years of famine. The Bible says in Genesis 41:33–36:

“Now therefore, let Pharaoh select a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt. Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, to collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years. And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. Then that food shall be as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine.”

Joseph gave ideas on economic and food security so the people would not lack during the season of famine. His divine idea would be one of the recorded biblical examples of strategic economic planning for food security for the nation of Egypt.

There are many problems in the world, and especially in Africa, we see challenges such as massive youth unemployment, flooding during the rainy seasons, and poverty. God can give you an idea that will create jobs for people at a time when many are complaining that there are no jobs.

For example, during the journey through the wilderness, God gave Moses a divine idea, to build the Ark of the Covenant. That single idea created job opportunities for Bezaleel and Oholiab, who were craftsmen filled with skill and wisdom by the Spirit of God. Through that divine instruction, they found meaningful work in the wilderness (Exodus 31). In the same way, God can give you an idea that will open doors of employment and provision for others. I believe Noah also needed help at-least from his children in building the gigantic ark.

God will also give us divine ideas; one that only He can take the glory for. His Spirit is in us, and the Bible tells us in Genesis 1:26a, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.’” If God could create the heavens, the earth, the planets, the sea, animals, etc, then surely God can give us ideas that make us innovative and able to create things that cause the world to marvel at where such ideas come from.

I believe that in this end time, God is giving us great ideas that will make us stand out in our generation.

Now, the question on your mind may be, “So how do I get divine ideas?” The answer is found in Matthew 7:7: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Have you ever prayed for God to give you ideas to solve the problems in society? Many people complain about the challenges around them, but very few rise up to do something about them. We are called to rise up and solve problems, no matter their size. When you read the Bible, you will notice that great men and women stood out because they addressed major challenges in their time. For instance, in 1 Samuel 17, when David appeared, many were afraid and murmuring about Goliath the giant Philistine Champion. Yet David rose to the occasion and, by divine inspiration, used a small stone to bring down a giant. I believe that in these end times, God will give us simple ideas that will produce great victories, just as the small stone did in David’s hand.

Divine ideas can also come by the will of God without you even asking for them, but you must be able to discern and recognize that it is God who is giving you the idea. By His mercy and sovereign will, God can send you a dream or a thought that carries an idea meant for this generation.

The Bible says in Job 33:14–15, “For God may speak in one way, or in another, yet man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, while slumbering on their beds.” God can, by His will, send a divine idea through your dreams, visions, or even your thoughts.

I will go into more detail in Part 3 of this series, but you must pray for understanding so that you can interpret your dreams and the language of God. One of the ways to understand God’s language is through His Word, the Bible. The more you read His Word, the better you understand the messages He sends to you.

For example, you may be working in the field of medicine but often see yourself in dreams surrounded by well-known entrepreneurs, millionaires, and business leaders, selling products that do not yet exist in the world. If such dreams come repeatedly and with clarity, chances are that God is calling you into entrepreneurship and revealing a niche market for you to enter. Pray for clarity and ask God for confirmation.

Another example is when God gives you, with great clarity and detail, a unique business idea, location, partners, and product in a dream. You do not need to be told that God has visited you with an idea that will usher you into a place of both impact and increase.I will end here and share more in Part 3: Getting Ideas from Dreams, where I will delve deeper into how God gives ideas through dreams and what to do after receiving them. Share in the comments if you have ever ignored an idea God gave you, only to see someone else implement it, or if this series has been a blessing to you.
